Jeremy was born and raised in Perth and is the third generation of his family to practise law. He graduated from Murdoch University with a Bachelor of Laws in 1997 and was admitted to the legal profession in 1998.

Jeremy began his legal career in small business litigation before becoming an Associate to Justice Robert French of the Federal Court of Australia (later Chief Justice of the High Court) . He then worked as a prosecutor with both the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions and the State Director of Public Prosecutions, before moving into criminal defence practice.

Jeremy has appeared before courts in all jurisdictions in Western Australia and has conducted jury trials. His experience spans State and Commonwealth criminal law, regulatory prosecutions, investigative work and coronial matters. He has served as Counsel Assisting the State Coroner and has also worked as an investigator at ASIC.

For the past several years, Jeremy worked with the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety in mining safety, work health and safety law, and mining and petroleum prosecutions. This work gave him substantial experience in complex regulatory investigations and prosecutions, particularly in high-risk industries.

Jeremy’s work across defence, prosecution, regulatory enforcement, coronial matters and investigations has given him a detailed understanding of how investigations are conducted, how briefs are prepared and how prosecutorial decisions are made. That experience is of significant assistance in his role as a defence lawyer. He brings to his clients the benefit of experience from both sides of the courtroom, a strong understanding of investigative and prosecutorial decision-making, and a commitment to careful, practical and persuasive advocacy.

Jeremy has now returned to criminal defence, where he believes he has found his true calling. Outside of the law, Jeremy enjoys sailing, fishing, hockey, spending time with his family, and time with his dog Banjo.
